Editors' ReviewDownload.com staffApril 22, 2014The relatively new Crunchyroll Manga app brings manga lovers plenty of content, but hasn't yet acquired all the functionality it needs to be a great app. What's more, despite being listed as a free app, it requires a paid subscription and then charges you for individual titles.ProsGood reading experience: Crunchyroll Manga comes with a sleek, minimalistic interface and responsive swiping and zooming-in gestures, which make the reading quick and enjoyable. Also, the content, itself, looks great on a good screen.Guide mode: The guide mode shows you mangas, panel by panel, allowing you to focus on the drawings and observe even the smallest details. This is a great feature that no other manga apps we know of have.Free samples: A huge number of free chapters are available for sampling, making it easy for you to discover interesting titles.ConsLimited functionality: As of yet, this app doesn't record your reading progress, nor does it let you sort favorites. More annoying is that you can't change the screen orientation to landscape mode, which can be a serious issue if you have a small screen.Doesn't include all popular titles: While the app features a lot of great content that can keep you entertained for a long time, you will not find all manga titles. For example, the popular Moyashimon and Yotsubato are missing.Bottom LineAlthough it's a relatively new app that still needs improvement, Crunchyroll Manga won't disappoint you, provided that you're willing to pay for it. Keep in mind, though, that apart from the subscription fee, you will also have to pay for individual titles -- there are other manga apps that offer more free content.
