It includes a wizard to get you started, along with a nice help file, but more experienced users can just hit the New button to create a backup job. The interface looks good and shows all the details of backup jobs, but you only can view one backup job at a time. Selecting files for backup jobs is easy, and we especially like the Add Special feature, which lets you select standard folders, such as Favorites and Cookies. Backup Plus includes important features, such as incremental backups, compression, password protection, and FTP capabilities, but it can't natively write to CD-RW. It's nice the application now encrypts archives, though it doesn't let you choose from a list of algortighms. You can schedule jobs to run every hour, day, or month, but this feature lacks some flexibility, not letting you exclude particular days. Our final criticism concerns the Restore Manager and its separation of folders and files: it's great for selectively restoring documents, but it needs a quick-restore function that will make sure every file in an archive gets restored. Backup Plus works fine for anyone needing a daily or weekly archive utility, but some quirks of the program may prove limiting.
