SpeechGym attempts to treat stuttering by recording the user's speech and playing it back after a slight delay. The interface is small and easy to understand, so you can imagine our dismay when we pressed Start to begin recording and the demo wouldn't let us continue. The program automatically detects installed sound cards, and you can easily configure the recording and playback setup. But since the trial won't actually perform its main function, we can't vouch for its performance. Users who want to try a speech-therapy program should put SpeechGym at the bottom of their lists.
