Upon launch, you can specify that the questions adhere to the educational standards of one of six states, or you can choose the Universal option. Math Scratch works in step-by-step mode for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems. For each type of problem, you can select one of five difficulty levels that add more digits to the equations. Though Math Scratch includes its own set of built-in questions, parents can input their own to give their kids a customized learning experience. Children aren't likely to be put off by the straightforward interface, but the squeaking sound effects quickly grow irritating. It's a shame there's no feature for disabling them or making other tweaks to the program's behavior. Nevertheless, parents of elementary school students will find this program delivers on its promise.
