When we say basic, we mean basic--there's nothing here that could be considered in-depth--but it's a good choice for users who are just beginning to learn about dentistry.The program's interface is plain and intuitive, just an image of a tooth with eight buttons representing the program's features. Users can view photos and descriptions of common dental tools, learn which tools belong on specific trays, and get the basics of dental charting. A simple labeled diagram shows the anatomy of a tooth. The program's sections on procedures is quite brief, covering only syringe preparation and amalgam and composite filling procedures, and in very little detail. Dental Helper's flash-card feature could be useful, but the interface makes it awkward; users can essentially view only one image before having to return to the previous menu. Dental Helper is definitely not a sophisticated program, and it's definitely meant to be used with other study materials; the section on charting, for example, is a good way to practice what you've learned elsewhere about the topic, but it's not going to give much information about how it actually works. The program has no Help file, but it doesn't really need one, either; although more detail about some of the topics it includes would be appreciated, actually using the program is a cinch. Dental Helper is free. It comes as a ZIP file and is accessible after extraction with no need for installation. We recommend this program to all users.
