Editors' ReviewDownload.com staffNovember 9, 2004The Internet makes it easier than ever for students to plagiarize term papers, but this application aims to strike fear into the hearts of deceptive students by comparing a document with the Web to find excessive similarities. The user-friendly interface lets you quickly select files for examination, although the trial version only supports one document at a time. The program generates HTML reports, highlighting suspicious passages, and gives you a link to the Web source, so you can check for yourself. Plagiarism-Finder was fairly accurate with passages of seven or more words but didn't work as well with smaller bits of text. Therefore, we feel the program does a good job of catching blatant cases of plagiarism, but can't be called foolproof. Though it may not help finger the most savvy cheats, this app still can serve as a handy weapon for teachers and professors.
