Editors' ReviewDownload.com staffAugust 6, 2008Unless you just need a general sense of the written text, you won't be thrilled with the imperfect translations that English-Spanish AtPromt Internet Translator produces. The program is added to Internet Explorer as a plain toolbar, and its drab appearance is heightened by the decision to have the limited icons appear in black-and-white unless highlighted by the mouse. Still, it's fairly easy to translate the whole page or just selected text from English to Spanish or vice versa. The whole page translator fumbled a bit when it rendered certain Web sites, with links and text appearing in a jumble on the page. The translation results weren't all that impressive for either the whole page or selected text options, and we spotted errors almost immediately. It gets even worse if you try to reverse the process by, in effect, translating the program's translation, and the results rarely made sense in either language. If you want to switch the page back to its original state, you'll have to use your browser's refresh option. A search tool is thrown in as well, but that's the extent of the extras offered. The idea behind this Web translator is a good one, and it could be a real time-saver. But the real test of any translating program is in the reliability of its output, and English-Spanish AtPromt Internet Translator just doesn't pass.
