Editors' ReviewDownload.com staffAugust 21, 2008EMDR Aid allows users to continue Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy outside their therapist's office. The program's simple interface and functions make it an attractive treatment option.EMDR should be performed only with the guidance of a qualified therapist, and EMDR Aid makes it clear that this program is not for self-diagnosis or treatment. In fact, users looking to treat themselves without professional guidance will likely be disappointed in this program; there's not much to it. For therapists and their clients who have established an EMDR treatment plan, however, this program may be useful. The interface is simple. Users first select the duration of their session in 30-second increments from 30 to 180 seconds (an unlimited options is also available). Users then watch a black square move back and forth across a white field, with an optional tone sounding each time the square hits an edge. Users can control the speed and direction of the square's movement. EMDR Aid has no Help file to speak of, although it does offer some basic information about how EMDR works and post-traumatic stress disorder. The missing Help file is not much of a problem, as the program's functions are limited and obvious to those familiar with this treatment method.EMDR Aid is free, and it installs and uninstalls without issues. We recommend this program to therapists and their clients who are looking for an easy way to continue EMDR treatment at home.
