Editors' ReviewDownload.com staffSeptember 16, 2004This application provides comprehensive information on past and present hurricanes. Since Global Tracks' huge storm database reaches all the way back to 1886, be prepared for a rather lengthy installation and a hefty tax on your hard drive. Upon launch, the program displays a zoomed-out map of the Atlantic Ocean, but you can choose from a number of maps ranging from Hong Kong to Florida. You not only can get current storm locations for a designated area, but you can choose to display a map of all hurricane paths between specific years. You can also peruse a chart-like database for historical hurricane information, including storm name, time, latitude, longitude, and wind speed. All of the program's maps are highly customizable, and the main window includes Web links for current weather, water temperature, and satellite images. Our only real complaint was with the three-day trial, as we think most users will need longer to become familiar with Global Tracks' many options. Meteorologists, storm chasers, and history buffs will all appreciate what this program has to offer.
