You nurse a tribe of Vikings, giving them orders to build up their settlement and assigning them to various tasks. Under your supervision, the villagers marry, have children, and advance in their professions. War can break out between your tribe and neighbors, but it's not an important part of the game. In terms of graphics, music, and interface, Northland is a bit outdated but still more than acceptable. You can now double or triple game speed, which marks a huge improvement over Cultures I and II. We also were pleased to find a step-by-step tutorial, which is easy to comprehend and helps you master the game s techniques. The demo's three missions should appeal to Sims adepts and fans of city-building games. One note: owners of some Radeon graphics cards have reported problems loading Northland.
