Editors' ReviewDownload.com staffNovember 7, 2008As with previous editions of Worms, you control a collection of slimy combatants in a turn-based battle against another team of worms. This latest version introduces three-dimensional gameplay, creating a whole new world of opportunities for these blood-thirsty yet oddly cute creatures. Each worm has 45 seconds in which to move, attack, and then (if it's smart) retreat to a safe position. The entire team shares a finite arsenal of both conventional and bizarre weapons, from bazookas to exploding sheep. The worms start with 100 hit points each and die if they either lose them all or fall into the water. The simple-to-learn controls are not customizable in the demo, a major bummer for those of us who don't like an inverted mouse view. Three camera angles--third-person, first-person, and blimp--are simple to switch among and combine to create a complete view of this new 3D environment. The demo offers one single-player level and one multiplayer map. Although the single-player Shipwreck level is an intriguing battleground, there are far too many chances for inexperienced players to fall into the water; the multiplayer Bunker level is a much better environment for newbies, but you'll need to find a playmate.
