Editors' ReviewDownload.com staffNovember 7, 2008Combining cel-shaded animation, slow-motion gun fights, and acrobatic moves, Drake of the 99 Dragons feels inspired by some of the best PC games of 2003 (XIII, Max Payne 2, and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, respectively). However, its release date is March 2004. Although this "neon-gothic" third-person shooter set in Hong Kong has an interesting look and feel, the graphics aren't up to par, and the gameplay already seems outdated. You play Drake, a member of the 99 Dragons Clan who has come back from the dead with supernatural powers. Running along walls, slowing down time, and shooting baddies over his shoulder are child's play for this action hero. The demo itself will be child's play for most gamers, as we finished it off in about 15 minutes. We easily defeated the mini-boss by hiding behind a table--after he tried to run through it, we casually blew him away.Drake of the 99 Dragons does have a unique look, with an appealing, dark-cartoon cityscape designed for explosive battles. On closer inspection, however, details are pixelated, and we got stuck in a few catwalks. Potential buyers should definitely give the demo a try before purchase.
