Editors' ReviewDownload.com staffSeptember 27, 2007It's hard not to feel a bit cheated with this free Firefox add-on that promises extra protection while browsing the Web. The publishers fail to mention that it only works if you already have two additional programs loaded on your computer.FoxTor was also difficult to locate on our first go-around. There isn't a toolbar icon or a right-click link. Instead, a tiny icon resides on the status bar. Clicking on the icon supposedly masks and unmasks your identity while browsing. When we first clicked on it, we received an error message stating that the program could not connect. It also asked if we were running Privoxy. When we right-clicked for more information, we found that FoxTor won't work unless you download two other programs, Privoxy and Tor. A link is provided to download the other programs, and clicking on it took us to another Web site.We found this program deceiving. The publisher should have mentioned up front that more downloads were needed for the program to work. Unless you already have the required programs, or are willing to download three programs to get the desired effect, there's zero value in just downloading FoxTor.
