Editors' ReviewDownload.com staffSeptember 13, 2006It's not the most intuitive of specialized browsers, but this app breaks up videos and images for easier playback. Fileloader's dual-pane design puts a video-player-like app above a very simple browser. The numerous buttons lack labels and tooltips, forcing even experienced users to take a look at the Help file. The steps and buttons depend on what's being downloaded. We found that this app offered little improvement over the popular browsers. Fileloader splits video files into segments to display one segment while the next downloads. There's nothing wrong with this approach, but there's nothing special about it either. Most browsers now do a version of this by default. Fileloader's secondary use is to create slide-show presentations of online images for display. Picking images is relatively easy in the browser. You simply load a Web page, click an image to save its URL for the presentation, and press a single button to start the show. The demo limits users to five images, but the number is more than enough to test this app. Another of its features allows users to create sharable lists for easy playback. Our testers found Fileloader to be more trouble than it was worth, and we suggest novices bypass it altogether. The presentation feature was helpful, but we didn't like the many steps needed to operate this app. Prepare to spend some time learning how to use the Fileload browser if you decide to test it.
