Editors' ReviewDownload.com staffJanuary 4, 2008Though it integrates well with Microsoft Outlook and catches a majority of spam, InBoxer for Outlook requires continual hands-on attention. Also, be aware: it works only with Microsoft Outlook, not Outlook Express. You control its operations through an add-on Outlook toolbar. InBoxer analyzes incoming e-mail and sends it to a blocked folder, a review folder, or your in-box. Questionable e-mail gets sent to the review folder, where you can press the thumbs-up or thumbs-down button on the toolbar to mark a message as OK or spam, respectively. Likewise, you can give e-mail in the blocked folder a thumbs-up and e-mail in your in-box a thumbs-down. In theory, InBoxer learns from your input and improves its filtering. In our tests, we found that InBoxer did indeed catch most spam messages without blocking newsletters we subscribed to. However, the work flow required us to spend a lot of time marking e-mail in the review folder. InBoxer offers a few other features, such as spam analysis and a trust list, the latter of which lets you whitelist or blacklist individual senders or entire domains--a useful option. In sum, InBoxer is a good antispam filter with significant limitations. For Outlook users, it's worth a look.
